What does it mean to be a Father? With Father's Day coming up in a few weeks, this is a question we want to share with our community, both locally and internationally. As Co-Founder of Parker Clay, and dad to 5 amazing kids, I often think of what it really means to be a dad. Rooted in the foundation of the Parker Clay DNA has a lot to do with being a father and also being loved by a father.
When I made my first 9,000 mile journey over to Ethiopia it was because of my daughter Selah. I can remember the overwhelming feeling I had in meeting her for the first time, and in that moment life changed forever. Prior to this trip to Ethiopia, there was a burden on my heart and it started with Parker and Clay, my two sons. When I became a father, my idea of love was taken to a whole new level, and when I looked at Parker and Clay I just couldn't help but think of all the children around the world without the love of a mother or father. This catalyst is what took the first 9,000 mile trip and turned it into closer to 300,000 miles to date along with moving our family internationally twice , and adding two more kids to the three we already had.
For me, being a father is about being genuine, honest, and giving 100% of the love I have to give. I have learned that I cannot and will not let being a father be about giving what is left of me but rather giving what is best of me. It takes courage, perseverance, and a frequent dose of humility to do it well. It takes all these things because nothing worth having comes without some kind of fight. Besides being a husband to my beautiful wife, my next greatest joy is being a father.
