Meet Angela Scott
CEO & Designer of Office of Angela Scott
With nothing more than her love of footwear and a penchant for nostalgia, CEO & Designer Angela Scott dove feet first into the world of shoemaking. Scott wanted to create a product that would empower women. As for the name? It represents ALL women. We are the office.
№1 — What drives you and brings you joy on the day to day?
Leaning in fully to the creative process is what really drives me. I especially love development. I’m a builder at heart so to be at the factory working to develop new ideas, new concepts for construction and integrity of a product is where I really thrive and am most fulfilled. And knowing more about the exceptional women who wear our shoes is something that brings me joy on the day to day. It’s just such an honor to know that we are a small part of their lives and when I hear about their accomplishments I’m in absolute awe, they inspire me to want to do better.
№2 — What has helped you persevere through tough times?
At the end of the day we are all so capable and so strong. If you can remember that during the trying times then you can get through anything.
№3 — Tell us a little about your mentors and how you have gotten to where you are today.
I am where I am today because one woman believed in my capabilities. Today she is my business partner and was my first female mentor. She showed me what it means to be a confident woman with elegance. I watched how much she gave to others and her dignity and grace when it came to being a woman, both professionally and personally. After the first two years when the company started to have legs, she really believed in me and gave me an opportunity to continue to grow. When she became an investor, she taught me the importance of women supporting other women. She showed me that The Office of Angela Scott was something that could be much bigger than just a shoe company—that we could inspire other women to support one another. By giving women a shoe that supports who they are, we can give women confidence—like being a small part of putting pride into their steps.
№4 — Sustainability: how do you use your brand platform to promote sustainability?
At the heart of our brand is a commitment to making a product that withstands the test of time –in terms of quality and craftsmanship. I believe in producing ethical, timeless, high quality shoes that prioritize construction and high end natural materials over trend. I believe with this focus our product will help to reduce landfill waste and provide our customers with a handmade product to last a lifetime. Our shoes are handcrafted in Portugal at a family-owned and operated factory that uses a timeless and traditional method called Goodyear Welt construction. This method of stitching the soles to the uppers with a welt is durable, breathable, and inherently sustainable as it utilizes natural materials and allows the shoe to be re-soled year over year. A Goodyear constructed shoe is timeless; not only will it last longer, but it also will never go out of style and is indeed the highest quality and finest made shoe in the world.
№5 — What advice do you have for female business owners looking to make a difference in the world?
Do it. Don’t wait. There will never be the perfect time, and you will never have all of the information you need to launch into being a business owner, but it will come with time. And don’t forget to ask for help. I was stubborn in the beginning and never wanted to bother anyone by asking for help. And when I started to ask for help, I was so surprised at the amount of people who rallied and offered advice to help me grow my business. And most importantly there are never enough female change makers. I love to be part of the community of leading women, and there is always room for more.
